QLD Smoke Alarm Planner
An iPhone app that plans the smoke alarms a Queensland home needs from 1 January 2027, room by room, from the Fire Services Act 1990 and the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 as at 15 October 2026.
QLD Smoke Alarm Planner is on its way to the App Store for iPhone. This page will link to it once it's live.
What it does
- You add each storey and its bedrooms, hallways and other rooms, and pick the room each bedroom door opens onto.
- The plan lists every place the law needs an alarm, and where on the ceiling it goes (more than 300 mm from lights and the wall, more than 400 mm from air-conditioner vents and fan blades).
- You record the alarms you already have from their labels. Each one is marked Keep, Replace (with every reason), Move or Add, and counted 10 years from the date it was made.
- Every line shows the section of Queensland law behind it, quoted word for word, with a link to the legislation.
Free, and what the one-off unlock adds
The plan, the alarm tracker and every citation are free. A one-off in-app purchase adds a PDF of the plan, a shareable shopping list, and reminders for a monthly test and 30 days before each alarm reaches 10 years. One purchase. No subscription, no account.
