Common questions
The plan says Replace but my alarm is new
Open the alarm in the Alarms tab and check each field against the label on the back: sensor (photoelectric), "AS 3786", power (hardwired or sealed 10-year battery), whether it's linked to the other alarms, and the date it was made. Tap the alarm in the Plan tab to see every reason it was marked Replace.
My bedroom door opens into the living room, not a hallway
In the Home tab, open the bedroom and set "Door opens onto" to the living room. The plan then puts an alarm between that bedroom and the rest of the home, as the regulation says.
A storey has no bedrooms
That storey needs one alarm on the most likely path to an exit. Open "Storey settings" and pick the room or hallway people would pass through.
I live in a unit
Choose "Unit or apartment" in the Home tab. If the building has its own smoke detection system, check with your body corporate. The plan still shows what you'd need if that system doesn't cover your unit.
Restore the unlock on a new iPhone
In the Plan tab, tap any locked row, then Restore Purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with.
Does it replace an electrician or an inspection?
No. The plan is a guide, not a compliance certificate. Hardwired alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician.
Found a wrong rule?
Email the section number and what you think it should say. Every rule in the app comes from the legislation linked on the explainer page, and a fix ships as a free update.
